ChamSys Educational Training – Offering both Interactive Online & In Person Training Courses
ChamSys Student/Educator Program
Continuous education and supporting the next generation of lighting professionals has always been close to our hearts and, in turn, an integral part of the ChamSys mission. Over the course of two decades, we have stayed true to our commitment to develop lighting consoles and software engineered to truly meet the needs of operators at all levels, from beginners to professionals.
One of the most rewarding aspects of our software development is that we are able to offer both our MagicQ PC and QuickQ Designer as FREE downloads to everyone, everywhere, with a desire to learn and develop their knowledge. For more information on our free software, please see here.
In addition to free software, we also provide a huge range of ongoing training resources (growing weekly!): from weekly training videos, how to videos, feature walkthroughs available online on demand for all. You can find these here.
Our Student/Educator Program reflects our dedication to supporting aspiring programmers and designers as they begin their learning journey, right through to when they graduate and beyond. We encourage all students to work their way up through the steps, grow and develop their knowledge and understanding in our amazingly unique industry and take advantage of our incentives on offer.
As students progress through the steps, they will be welcomed as part of the ChamSys communities with regular updates, tailored newsletters and exclusive opportunities as they progress along the path to confidence and competence with our hardware and software. In addition to supporting students, we are also committed to supporting educators in our fields.
To qualify for the ChamSys Student Discount Program, you need to either:
be a current student enrolled in a lighting or production-focused educational program OR be a teacher/lecturer on a lighting or production-focused educational program OR have graduated from a lighting or production-focused educational program within the last 2 years. ChamSys Interactive, Online Student Lighting Console Programming Course

Course Description
This interactive course is designed for students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate lighting design programs at the university or collegiate level. With a hybrid module combining live instructor presentations, videos, quizzes and programming exercises this course is developed to keep the user engaged and knowledge retained.
Course duration: 4.5 hours.
Students will use their own individual laptops/PC’s (Windows, Mac or Linux) to install the Free ChamSys MagicQ PC Software This is a fully featured software version of our flexible, modern lighting control consoles, capable of emulating multiple styles of lighting programming. Students can see exactly what they program in real-time using the included advanced 3D visualization software on the same computer.
Students will use their own individula laptops/PC’s to connect to the ChamSys LMS system. and watch interactive videos, take quizzes & perform programming exercises in MagicQ PC
Students who complete the course receive a certificate from ChamSys along with a FREE MagicDMX USB-DMX interface – one universe lighting adapter for use with our MagicQ software.
Learning outcomes: Students will be proficient in setting up, patching and playing back lighting shows for both theatre and live performance style events on a professinal level lighting console. Students will understand naming conventions and programming principles that are common to modern day lighting consoles and their performance use.

In Advance
In advance: Students watch our Preparing for online MagicQ Training video, which details how to install and setup MagicQ ahead of the training.
Any students struggling, or unable to install MagicQ and get the program running are asked to contact ChamSys for assistance. Students who successfully get MagicQ installed and running after watching the video need to do nothing further until the training.

On The Day

09:30 AM – 10:00 AMAll students join a live Zoom session (Zoom link provided in advance) for an introduction to ChamSys and MagicQ and to be issued log-ins for the LMS system.

10:00 AM – 1:00 PMStudents work independently on the MagicQ training course hosted on the LMS system (interactive with videos, quizzes & programming exercises). ChamSys trainers will be available via the Zoom meeting to answer questions. Students submit their show file from MagicQ when they have completed their LMS session.

1:00 PM – 1:30 PMBREAK (time for ChamSys trainers to review LMS results and go through show files submitted).

1:30 PM – 2:00 PMAll students join back the live Zoom session. We review the students results & show files in a live Presentation with MagicDMX & Swag giveaway for the students.
